Secluded on the left bank of the Gartempe river The Moulin de Roche is situated between the villages of Jouhet, 2km upstream, and Antigny, 4km downstream. The property has 1.5km of river frontage, 2 small islands, a weir and 7 hectares of meadow, woodland and 3 caves. The site is classified as a conservation area of historical importance and outstanding natural beauty.
The mill-house and water-mill date back to the 15th century, then a possession of the abbey in Saint Savin, 6 km downstream, now a unesco world heritage site, famed for its frescoes.
The mill-house tower houses a stone spiral staircase and pigeonnaire in the top section. The water-mill, disused since the 1970’s, remains preserved with its original machinery, millstones and waterwheel.
The gite is well provided and maintains its old style character with all the comforts of modern living. The terrace offers stunning views of the river and islands. The gite has accommodation for two people with a French boudoir style bedroom and hand painted Armoir, extremely romantic and private. French windows lead out onto a small terrace and steps to the garden.
The bathroom facilities offer a very stylish and modern wet room shower, heated towel rail, sink and toilet. The kitchen is well stocked with cooker, hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher etc.
There is also a utility room with an additional fridge / freezer space if required, washing machine, ironing board and a further toilet. The living room has a hand painted table and chairs a day a French style 3 piece suite, wood burner, TV, original paintings and art work.
